Sandakan is the second-largest city in Sabah known as the gateway for ecotourism destinations in sabah such as the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre, Turtle Island Parks, Kinabatangan River, and Rainforest Discovery Centre. It is also known for the unique Gomantong Caves, a home of millions of bats and swiftlets popular for its best-managed edible birds’ nests. The Kinabatangan River spanning 560km from its headwaters to its outlet at the Sulu Sea is the longest river in Sabah containing some of Borneo’s highest concentration of wildlife. Slow river cruises along the Kinabatangan River offer a chance to spot the endemic Proboscis monkeys and different species of birds and wildlife. The Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre offer video show documentary on rehabilitation of orphaned Orang Utan and a chance to see Orang Utan during the scheduled feeding sessions.
